When I attended my first Gamblers Anonymous meeting, I had no clue what to expect. Here's a quick overview of a typical Gamblers Anonymous meeting so you can feel more comfortable attending your first meeting.

The Format

Sunlight of the Spirit (ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS), 8:00AM Miracles Happen (NARCOTICS ANONYMOUS), 8:30AM Keep Coming Back (ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS), 10:00AM ACA Friday (ACA ADULT CHILDREN), 11:00AM: SUN 08 MON 09.

First Half

  1. The live chat, just like the helpline, is manned by compulsive gamblers like you who would be eager to discuss any issues with you. Gamblers Anonymous is here to provide you with information and guidance to help you get free from your addictive behaviours.
  2. CHAT Welcome to chat. Our chat rooms are safe spaces for you to engage in real time chat with other members of the GamTalk community. Remember, you need to join the GamTalk community (green button top right) and to be logged in to post on the community support wall.

A typical Gamblers Anonymous meeting, the first half of the meeting is spent reading from the yellow combo book and a reading from the A Day at a Time Meditation Book. The yellow combo book contains all of the readings from that can be found on the Gamblers Anonymous website, including:

Second Half

The second half of a Gamblers Anonymous meeting is reserved for personal therapy. This gives all attendees a chance to talk about their week, reflect on past experiences, and share their story with the group.

Duration

The length of a Gamblers Anonymous meeting will vary based on the number of attendees. Expect a typical meeting to last between 50-70 minutes.

Gam-Anon is a 12 step self-help fellowship comprised of men and women who have been affected by the gambling problem of another. This free service is not affiliated with a religious organization or counselling agency and does not treat gambling addictions, but helps those who have been affected by someone else's.
